The Luocheng Mulao autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi, is building the "Mulao Homeland", a residential community for impoverished people to live.
The project will cover an area of 443 mu (29.53 hectares) with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan ($184.8 million). It includes 2,900 new residences, equipped with commercial streets, farmer's markets, hospitals, kindergartens and schools.
At present, the preliminary work has been completed. Construction workers are excavating foundations for the houses and building three main streets.
The project is planned to finish 1,825 apartments within this year, accommodating 7,800 local people.
